The profile I will be analyzing is on the Sephora Beauty Insider Community. This community is fairly new and the profiles I found are more of a prediction of what it will be like. The purpose of this profile is to get the word out of a new community being launched within the makeup world. The overall argument the author is making is that this new community will offer another way for clients to communicate with each other in order to achieve an optimal experience. The author makes their argument not by highlighting any specific members who are active in this community but by including detail of the interactions that occur between the members of this community. I believe the author does this because it is quite obvious who this community is for, which is anybody who wears makeup or uses skincare products that are sold at Sephora. To go even more in depth this community consists of members who want to find inspiration, ask questions, or get recommendations from professionals or members with similar interests. The article includes a quote from the vice president of digital relations at Sephora, Mary Beth Laughton, saying “this community is for those clients who crave a deeper level of beauty connection and inspiration from people just like her, whom she can trust.” The author includes this to possibly give the reader a reliable source of what the community is trying to accomplish. The author hits the frame of place a few times by including where this online community can be accessed “Sephora Beauty Insider Community will be accessible on the Sephora App for iOS and Android, and mobile web.” They also talk about who exactly has access to it and how to become a member “To fully engage in the Community, clients must be a member of Beauty Insider, Sephora’s complimentary loyalty program.” By talking about who and how the community can be accessed gives the reader information on how they can join if they were interested. The author also talks about the interaction among community members. How the members interact is one of the most important aspects of a community because it gives each member a sense of belonging to people with similar interests. The author talks about the multiple features the members have on the website including the ability to build a custom public profile with personal interests, looks, and beauty characteristics. This leads members to finding other people with similar concerns and finding products that fit their specific beauty characteristics. The Gallery is an interactive photo wall where members can post photos or videos and browse different looks complete with a list of products used. At the time that this article was published the community had already began the progress of creating new features such as the advantage of getting input on products customers are considering before continuing with their purchase. In conclusion, the author addresses the major points in the profile very well to inform makeup and beauty lover readers of an online community they could join.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia written collaboratively by us, the people who use it. It was launched in 2001, by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. Their purpose is to write articles that inform the audience on certain topics that are from different major points of view in an easily accessible way. Initially, there was only the English-language version but versions in other languages have quickly developed after, which made it even more possible for the world to access. As of March 2017, Wikipedia has about 40,000 articles. The site strives to be a reliable source especially on controversial topics by gathering the strongest references possible to prove their statements. Personal experiences or opinions do not belong. Most of the time in articles, multiple points of view are described and are each presented openly and not referred to as "the truth" or "the better view".
I will be analyzing the Wikipedia site of the Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting because it is a recent event that has led to the talk of controversial issues on the news. The purpose of the Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting Wikipedia page is to get as much reliable information of what happened out to the public. I would say the author proves this by giving a detailed description of the events leading up to, during and after the shooting. The very first sentence is “On February 14, 2018, a mass shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.” This seems to be a common starting point for most Wikipedia pages because it answers the questions of what, when and where did the event occur. This gives the reader an idea of what it is they will be reading about more in depth in the article. The audience of this article is anyone who wants to learn about what happened during the event or wants to keep up with the aftermath and legal proceedings. The author(s) make it easily readable by dividing the article into sections with subheadings. It is common for a Wikipedia article to provide many different hyperlinks to other articles in case the reader wants to learn about a certain subject. An example for this article would be “he intended to mimic the University of Texas tower shooting” the audience may have never heard about the UT Austin tower shooting and is able to click the link that leads them to a more in depth page about it. This can also help establish some sort of credibility as a Wikipedia article. The author appeals to ethics by referencing where the information was taken from and making sure that it is from a reliable source, not a blog which is opinion. Almost every sentence that gives specific detailed information about the shooting ends with a footnote which leads you to the bottom of the article with a list of references. Looking at the reference list of this article most of the statements are taken from news reports like USA today, The New York Times and Miami Herald. In this article the author(s) uses logos by using important figures involved in the event such as the local sheriff “According to Sheriff Scott Israel, his office received 23 calls about Cruz over a decade.” In this article there is no need for there to be an appeal to emotion since it is just informational. I should first start with a brief introduction of who Kris Bryant is. Well, Kris Bryant plays for the Major League Baseball Team known as the Chicago Cubs. They recently won the world series in 2016 after 108 years. Here is a picture from his page after the big win. Kris Bryant also became a husband to his high school sweetheart in January of 2017. Here is a photo of that moment. His audience of one million followers consists of family members, friends, teammates, and of course his fans. His purpose towards his fans is to show what he does in the offseason when not playing baseball or even to let them know about upcoming games they can watch during the season. As far as his purpose towards his family, he probably isn’t able to see most of them a lot because of his busy schedule so they are able to see what he is up to on his page. He will often post photos of him out with friends playing golf and birthday appreciation posts for his mom and dad. A way that Kris Bryant expresses ethos is the advertisement of his shoes, it shows his credibility that he is a good enough player to even be a part of the Adidas shoe brand and have his own line of baseball cleats. Pathos is expressed in multiple different ways on his Instagram page, during the time of the tragedy in Las Vegas he encouraged his followers to donate towards helping the victims that were affected in his hometown. Click here for the short video he posted. Another way he expresses Pathos could be the photos he posts of his wife, he could be gathering the emotions of those who like to see him as a family man. A few common conventions that he uses include short and concise captions on every photo which will have the audience read it rather than scrolling past it for being too long. He is able to explain the context behind the photo in just a sentence or two. He is also consistent with ending his captions in an exclamation point possibly to show his emotion of excitement. One last convention is that when he posts a photo of him and someone else he always includes the other persons Instagram page so that the audience is able to view their content as well, possibly for credibility. What keeps the audience intrigued in following Kris’s page is the fact that he is funny in his videos and in the short captions that he posts. Most celebrities content consists of constant advertising of their product in order for the audience to purchase their brand, but Kris has only advertised three times at most. He is also consistent with how often he posts.
